Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty

Dr Chang performs Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) for his patients with glaucoma when suitable, either as first line therapy or as adjunctive treatment to medical eye drop therapy. SLT laser is a highly effective and clinically proven treatment for glaucoma that can be safely and comfortably provided in Dr Chang’s eye clinic without needing hospital admission.

What is Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)?

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a type of laser surgery used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma. Unlike traditional laser treatments, SLT targets melanin in specific cells of the trabecular meshwork, which is the drainage system of the eye. By using low-energy laser pulses, SLT stimulates the body's healing mechanisms, allowing for improvement of drainage and lowering of IOP.

Benefits of SLT

SLT offers numerous benefits. It is:
  • Effective: SLT has been shown to effectively lower IOP in many patients.
  • Safe: SLT is considered a safe procedure with minimal risk of complications. It can be repeated if necessary.
  • Non-invasive: Unlike traditional glaucoma surgeries, SLT does not require incisions or implants.
